Plant Growth Regulators
نویسنده
چکیده
Plant growth regulators are hormone-like chemicals that occur naturally in plants, and play a central role in their growth and development. Five major classes of plant growth regulators have been identified as plant hormones, but scientists believe that there are more waiting to be discovered. The five growth hormones include auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins, abscisic acid, and ethylene. Collectively, they regulate many facets of plant growth and development including seed germination, root growth, stem elongation, leaf expansion, flowering, seed development, fruit ripening, and dropping of leaves and fruits. Each of these processes is directly relevant to agriculture; what is harvested for food, feed, or fibers is the result of one of these developmental events. For example, cereal grains are the seed, potatoes are the highly specialized stem, spinach is the leaf, and cotton comes from the highly developed cell walls of the ovule, a part of the maternal reproductive structure. The more we understand these processes, the better chance we will have of developing a strategy for crop Improvement. With the advent of biotechnological techniques, it is now distinctly possible to manipulate the natural regulatory mechanisms to produce improved crop varieties with desirable genetic traits.

Effects of the Timing of Foliar Application and Concentrations of Growth Regulators on the Mineral Content of Pistachio Leaves
Pistachio is one of the economically important horticultural crops in Iran. The main pistachio-producing areas in Iran are located at the edge of the desert and are affected by soil and water salinity. Water and nutrient uptake by the root decreases under saline conditions. In this study, the effects of foliar growth regulators applied at different times on the nutrient uptake and leaf nutrient...

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of different plant growth regulators, NAA (0 mg/l, 50 mg/l and 100 mg/l) and GA3 (0 mg/l, 50 mg/l and 100 mg/l), with various boron concentrations (0 mg/l, 50 mg/l and 100 mg/l) on pollen germination of ‘Şaba’, ‘Rabie’ and ‘Padre’ almond cultivars in 10% sucrose and 1% agar medium at 24°C in dark conditions. The results showed that different tr...
متن کاملPhysiological responses of peppermint (Mentha piperita L.) to plant growth regulators and salinity stress
Salinity of soil is a major abiotic stress limiting the crop production and growth of peppermint. The aim of study was assessment the plant growth regulators efficacy (salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA), brassinosteroids (BRs), and non-application of hormone as control) on physiological traits of peppermint under salinity stress (0, 30, and 60 mM). The experiment was conducted using the co...
متن کاملImprovement of Rooting in Forsythia × intermedia Cuttings by Plant Growth Regulators
Asexual propagation through cuttings is an appropriate method used for most ornamental plants. Success in increasing the percentage of rooting, reducing root emergence and increasing proliferation efficiency depends on several factors like plant growth regulators, especially auxins. Rooting of Forsythia × intermedia is difficult and requires specific hormonal treatments and proper cultivation b...
